Stylish Clothing Wardrobe

Every wardrobe, whatever spending power it represents, contains its fair share of misfits, disappointments and downright disasters. As budgets shrink and fashion messages conflict in our fast-changing markets, it becomes more and more difficult to know what to buy. You are often unsure of how much to spend, or how to distinguish between good- quality fashion basics, genuine trends and passing fads. How much should you invest in lasting quality and how much in a fun fad? It is getting more and more difficult to know what to wear and how to wear it.

Ironically, many of us can plan a hostile takeover of a company or a 40th birthday bash for 150 people, but when it comes to planning our wardrobes, we seem to lack the basic tools. Fashion editors showcase either cutting-edge trends or a theme of the moment, driven by high-fashion merchandise that may bear no resemblance to the life we lead. Buying off the pages of a magazine and not off the image you see in the mirror goes a long way towards explaining many expensive fashion disasters.

Wardrobe planning is fascinating and vital to success. It is about self-knowledge and attainable aspirations, investment and return, perception and proportion, creative expression and skill. Your wardrobe is your investment.

Do you spend a small fortune, lurch from high-fashion trend to high-fashion trend, have cupboards filled with clothes, and wonder why you look the same every day? Do you ‘never have a thing to wear‘?

Women’s so-called ‘endless shopping’ seems to be a running gag with men. To be fair, there may be a grain of truth in the observation. If you have three wardrobes filled with clothes you hardly ever wear, you are doing something wrong! Often it’s for ’security’. Surely a full wardrobe means an outfit for every occasion? Not at all. The good news is that this is easy to set right. It needs a critical analysis, a bit of courage and from then on the discipline of a balanced fashiondiet‘ — no, not starvation, and not a fad crash ‘diet’ either.

Cut through all the clutter and confusion of what to wear as you learn how to organise and plan your wardrobe. I will show you how to work with the minimum to create the maximum. Start with the basics then add and build, add and build, creating the perfect wardrobe. You should end up with an appreciating asset, like blue-chip unit trusts.

I would like you to remember my ‘chicken mayonnaise sandwich‘ story. To make a chicken mayonnaise sandwich, there are three vital ingredients: the bread, the chicken and the mayonnaise. The same principle applies to your wardrobe. Without the correct colours, styles and proportions, you will never have a wardrobe that works for you.
