Friendly and Extroverted Spring Palette for Men’s Wear

The Spring palette is warm and energetic. The Spring man’s colours are friendly and extroverted, as are most Spring personalities. You do not wear dark or heavy colours well, so strive for medium-dark to light shades. All your colours must be clear, which means they look pure and clean. Avoid muted (greyish) colours, as you will look washed out in them.

Here are Spring’s colours.

The Spring man’s best white is ivory, a creamy white. He may also wear Summer’s soft white, but not Winter’s pure white, which will make him look pale.

Your greys must be clear and warm, with yellow undertones, and have a bright, crisp quality. Even in winter you should avoid dark greys. Light greys are your very best. A medium grey will look darkish on you because of your light colouring.

Your most flattering navy is a light, bright one. The next best is a darker but still bright and clear navy. Your other blues range from a light true blue to periwinkle blues, i.e., blues with a violet tone. Your aquas and turquoises are plentiful, ranging from medium to bright. A light clear blue is good on a Spring man. Avoid any blue that is too pale or powdered. You look best in blues with depth or brightness.

Your beiges and browns range from ivory to clear warm beige to golden tan, camel, medium golden brown, and chocolate brown. You do not wear dark browns or greyish coffee browns. Be sure to avoid wearing any muted or muddy browns, such as khaki, near your face. You can wear khaki trousers.

Your gold is light and clear. Buff and chamois colours are wonderful for you, as is bright golden yellow.

  • Red

The Spring man’s reds are either orange reds or clear reds. Darker reds are harsh and ageing to your face, so they should be avoided. Spring may also wear light rust.

  • Green

Yellow-greens are for you, ranging from pastel to bright.

All shades of peach, apricot, coral, salmon and warm pink are for you. You do not have to be careful at all when choosing clothing in this colour family. You wear them from light shades to medium and bright ones. Warm pinks have yellow in them, easy to see when compared to blue pink.

Your orange is fairly light; never as bright as Autumn’s orange.

  • Violet

Medium violet is your version of purple. Avoid darker purples; they will look too harsh with a Spring man’s colouring.

Individualising Your Colours

Most Springs have good colour in their cheeks and therefore wear all their colours well. If you are a very fair, blonde Spring, you will find that your brightest yellow and yellow green are too strong if large areas of either are worn. If you are a dark- haired Spring, you may find that your camel and palest colours look best when mixed with a more vivid colour.

Business Colours

Spring has the hardest time assembling a business wardrobe because the Spring man’s colouring demands medium to light colours and is easily overpowered by dark ones. Try to find the brightest, liveliest navy you can. Avoid greyish navies. Your best grey is a light warm grey, usually found in summer. Medium warm grey is as dark as you should go. Bear in mind that, because of your lighter colouring, a medium grey will look dark on you. Colour is relative. (If you must compromise on either your navy or your grey suit, be sure to wear a shirt and tie from your season.) Spring can wear blue suits in lighter shades than navy, as long as the suit looks alive rather than drab. You rarely find a medium golden brown wool suit fabric, but you will find chocolate brown as well as tweeds with golden tones. Again in business suits you may have to compromise and verge a bit into Autumn’s browns — keeping your shirt and tie in your colours, of course.

Like Autumn, you may need to have your business suits tailor-made to take advantage of the wider selection of fabrics. In summer you will find that some of the beige and golden brown suits are clear and warm — just right for you. A camel summer suit is great, if you can find it in a business style.

Business shirts are easy for you to find. Your ivory light warm beige, buff and light periwinkle blues are excellent for business wear. In addition, you may wear Summer’s soft white (but not Winter’s pure white — you’ll look pale). Your peach, apricot and warm pink shirts are acceptable in some work environments and they’re great as dress shirts for social wear.

Choose a red tie as often as you can. Because your orange red is so bright, it will be more suitable for business when used as a background for a print. Your light clear navy is great too, as is a light blue or dark periwinkle. Shades of golden tan, camel, or buff are fine for business, as is light rust or even teal.

A trenchcoat for you is a bit hard to find because many of the beiges are darkish and muted. Choose a beige that is light and clear if possible. Also consider a brightish navy.

Leisure Wear Colours

You’re the man who looks really good in a camel jacket. Your golden browns also appear frequently in sports jackets, both as solids and in tweeds. Casual shirts for you offer a wide selection in stripes and plaids, and Spring colours abound in bright shirts. Most Springs enjoy their bright colours. A pair of trousers in beige or golden brown will go with everything in your palette. A special bonus for Spring is your perpetually youthful look — more than compensation for the fact that you have to work harder to assemble a business wardrobe.
