Romantic Men’s Wearing

You are the man who calls for a rich, luxurious, well-blended look. The Romantic is a Romeo — a lover, not a fighter. You’re gracious and suave, with the air of an artist or poet about you. Very sensual and very social, you have expensive tastes and a bit of theatrical flair. Everything about you suggests wealth, sophistication and the bedroom. The Romantic is a ‘people’ person and can be found in highly visible positions, both at work and at play. In general, you’re naturally interested in fashion and grooming, and you need to restrain your flamboyance rather than strive for an energetic look.
The Romantic man is moderately tall with an athletic but not overdeveloped build — strong but not bulky. Romantics tend to have beautiful eyes and skin and thick hair — curly, wavy or straight, but always luxuriant. Your face is expressive and well-proportioned, important to your overall look. Sophisticated and sexy, you’re influenced by current fashions and have a love of soft fabrics and luxurious colours. A rather formal dresser, you choose clothes fitted to show off your body symmetry; all detail serves to frame your face.
Romantic Men’s Business clothes
If you work in a field that allows for less conservative dress, you can really go for a high-fashion look. A fitted suit is your best look, with either double vents or no vent (a single vent is too boxy for you). Padded shoulders and a very nipped-in waist flatter your lithe silhouette. A double-breasted jacket is good for you, too. If your profession requires a conservative image, choose the suit with a definite waist and padded shoulder. Avoid sharp lines in favour of a smooth, slightly curved silhouette. Choose fine wools and cashmere rather than stiff fabrics or gabardine. Soft, lightweight woollens suit your look and your expensive tastes. Your favourite textured fabric is very soft: your favourite colours are the richest (not darkest) of your palette — lush colours of medium intensity such as rich navy or warm coffee brown. For suits, solids are best, though stripes in soft textures and woven-in designs can work well for you. Patterns, if any, should be on a small scale, and checks or plaids aren’t really for you.
Romantic Men’s Dressy leisure wear
This is your best style — the clothes in which you are most comfortable. The Romantic favours elegant leisure wear — a fitted cashmere jacket, for example. He avoids patterned jackets or any highly contrasting separates. He wears trendy looks. Pleated trousers are fine as long as they are fairly fitted in the hips and buttocks. You enjoy special jackets, such as one that’s short and fitted in a buttery leather, or something long and draped and stylish. Soft wool, suede, and silk make excellent jackets for you.
Romantic Men’s Shirts
Since your face is one of your best features, unusual collars are your forte. Collar pins or lapel pins are excellent on you, as are wing collars or any very high collars. For business attire, wear an unstarched standard collar in a thin, smooth cotton, and in other professions choose a fabric such as silk or cotton batiste. Avoid overly crisp shirts — they are cold for a Romantic. Do wear some colour, rather than white, but stick mostly to solids. Stripes are not your best look unless they are very well- blended and soft.
Romantic Men’s Ties
Go for silk, either shiny or raw (matt), in a well-blended design — never a knit or woven tie. Solids are your absolute best. Since your overall look is harmonious, choose a tie that is in medium contrast to your shirt, either solids or a pattern that has colours from both your jacket and shirt. In patterns, stripes must be well- blended and paisleys are best in shiny silk with a watercolour effect. Small patterned ties are not the Romantic’s best look because they are too crisp and predictable. If you need them for business wear, choose repeat patterns in teardrop or oval shapes. Pin dots on shiny silk are good, but avoid medium or large dots. Avoid patterns with rigid structures or defined edges. Unusual ties — narrow ones, for example — are good.
Romantic Men’s Shoes
Choose a lightweight Italian-look shoe with a thin sole, or an elegant boot of very fine, soft leather or suede.
Romantic Men’s Casual wear
Both elegant and trendy, your casual wear should look expensive and reflect your sophisticated flamboyance. You wear designer jeans, smooth leather trousers and fashion colours. Choose a short leather jacket with epaulettes or a military jacket with lots of detail.
Romantic Men’s Coats
Overcoats must have shape and a fitted silhouette. Padded shoulders are important and wrap belts work well. Choose soft woollens or cashmere if possible.
Romantic Men’s Jewellery
Used as an accent and not overdone, jewellery is great on the Romantic man — a ring with a stone, for example, but no heavy neck chains. Your watch is a simple but elegant slimline with either a metal or smooth leather band. Think tasteful and subtle.
Romantic Men’s Formal
A truly formal look, though flattering, can look too severe on you. Although a fussy look doesn’t suit you, you can take some liberties with your formal look — a jewelled lapel pin, a white dinner jacket or a red tie. Tails and a fitted waist in your formal jacket work for you. If the occasion allows, try something different, such as a velvet jacket and silk shirt over designer jeans.
