GENERAL WARDROBE GUIDELINES

Use light and dark colours mixed together, or one bold colour on its own. Black, charcoal, royal blue and red will be basics you can mix with many other shades to look your best. Soft monochromatic blends, so elegant on others, will be boring on you regardless of the price or designer label.

Your striking colouring can overwhelm other people particularly if you limit your colours to strong neutrals such as black and navy. Lighten your impact by using more colour near your face. A bright yellow scarf or jacket will take the ‘hard’ edge off a black dress. Hot pink makes navy more feminine but still business-like.

Taupe and pewter can lighten up your summertime wardrobe but never team with light colours; look to your primaries instead.

COMPLEMENTARY MAKE-UP

Your colouring is bold; so, too, must your make-up be. True red, strawberry or hot pink will complement most of your wardrobe. Test plum (cool-toned) versus salmon (warm-toned) blushers to see which is most natural on you. Your eyes should be the centre of attention so always define them. Match your shadows and eye-liner with the intensity of the colour of your eyes: softer shades if you are blue-eyed (for example, an opal pink with charcoal or navy) and stronger shades if you have hazel or brown-eyes (try, for example, apricot with plum or spruce).
