Perfect Sexy Accompanies Attaches, Brief-Cases and Handbags

Working women tend to carry around more clutter than men. We have our business papers in an attache or folder and all of our personal items — make-up, hair brush, keys and so on in a handbag. So what’s the problem? It’s simply that coping with two bags makes your comings and goings both clumsy and distracting and for no good reason.
The ideal arrangement is to have one receptacle for everything. If you are one of those women who use their bag as a filing cabinet cum holdall, take yourself firmly in hand. You really can survive without it. And you will. All of your personal bits — a hair brush or comb, powder and lipstick — should be kept in a small make-up case and stored inside your attache or brief-case along with your diary, wallet, cheque-book, keys, and pen-set. For women who travel by public transport or who are in and out of taxis and needing to get to their wallets easily, a small shoulder bag simply to hold your wallet is both acceptable and practical.
When choosing an attache or brief-case, buy the best you can afford and, preferably, in leather. Manufacturers are very much aware now of the considerable — and still increasing — army of career women, and they are bringing out new designs specifically for us. So shop around until you find one that suits your special needs.
Unless you really do have to carry around large amounts of documentation, weigh in the balance one of the slim-line models — but with a base-line insert that allows reasonable expansion when needed. Bear in mind that leather bags can be heavy even when empty; make sure you will be able to carry yours with ease when it is full. Check the design of the handle, too. Is it comfortable to grip, not too thick yet sturdy enough not to let you down after a year or so of intensive use? Is it retractable so that you can carry it under your arm if and when necessary? While this is not essential, you might find it a useful facility.
Colour choice is still very limited; a few more neutrals could be added to the present ranges. However, black or a warm reddish-brown look smart with most businesswear; if navy is your main basic colour, you should be able to find this, too.
If you hate hard attaches and brief-cases, and prefer a shoulder bag, look at attractive ones referred to as ‘Shopping Bags’ but which, in leather and with a price tag usually starting out around £100, are anything but! This style is very versatile in that you can carry papers for most meetings (it should be big enough to hold a normal file folder and pad of paper) and usually has handy zip compartments for personal items. If it has an adjustable strap, so much the better. Constantly carrying a heavy shoulder bag can be very wearing, not only for you but for your jacket. On occasions you might prefer to carry it as a ‘grip’.
Men in business judge each other’s status by their attaches or briefcases. Increasingly, women do, too. Make sure your preferred style is both functional and as impressive as you can afford.
Scarves and Shawls
If you have yet to discover the wonders of scarves as a means to be more colourful and interesting, come to London and visit Liberty’s — scarf heaven! After you recover from the excitement of all the colours you’ll be taken by the patterns — some ethnic, others soft and floral or vibrant blends of texture, colour and abstraction. You won’t be able to resist one.
Again, you should begin by choosing scarves and shawls that compliment you first in terms of colouring, scale and personality. Once you’ve got your focus on a few, think of wearing the scarf with a simple dress or jacket. Obviously, it will be advisable to wear the dress or suit when you try on the scarf, if you plan to invest in an expensive one.
If you find scarves fiddly and can’t stand the fuss with them moving about, you might consider larger shawls to wear with your jackets. Whichever shawl you choose can be secured with a pin to prevent it sliding from your shoulders. Silk scarves are more troublesome for the uninitiated scarf-wearer because they slide about more than wool ones.
See the illustrations here for basic but undeniably stylish ways to wear scarves with confidence. There’s no better way to compliment a new suit or coat, or to make older ones look new and exciting.
